Democracy Under Construction: Building a Modern Congress
Workshop participants will receive a 360-degree overview of the need for Congress to update itself to function in the 21st Century. We will discuss how it has evolved in the past, including specific reform efforts. We will opine about what the future holds for digital infrastructure in Congress, discuss how the Evidence Based Policymaking Act of 2019 might create opportunities for data, evidence and the deliberative process, and consider ways to increase civic participation in lawmaking. We’ll look at the current Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress, examine its recommendations and discuss its implications for Congress, for the First Branch, for the nation, and for the evolution of democracy around the world. What is your vision for a *functioning* system? Together, we will discuss how we can build ”G21C” participatory, data-driven governance for the 21st century.
