Working with the inclusive finance team at the Beeck Center will give me a front row seat to view the evolution of the federal Opportunity Zone program. Authorized in 2017, the Opportunity Zone program is a tax expenditure program intended to encourage private sector investments in economic development in low income communities. I am excited to contribute to the inclusive finance team’s work to help ensure these investments benefit long-time residents of these communities.
What issues are you most passionate about?
I am passionate about increasing the supply of permanently affordable quality housing because I believe housing is a human right. Quality affordable housing promotes the mental and physical well-being of children and families, improves educational outcomes for children and promotes economic security. I am interested in developing new impact investing strategies and products to promote the expansion of permanently affordable housing.
Who inspires you?
Robert Hooke (1635-1703) advanced empiricism and helped democratize the pursuit of knowledge. Hooke developed a microscope and published detailed studies of tiny objects like insects, plants and needles. Beyond sharing his own discoveries, he shared the design of his microscope which empowered other people to make discoveries of their own, validate or disprove the claims of others, and contribute to the growing body of human knowledge.
