Fellows and Project Teams

Shelby Switzer

Shelby Switzer is a civic technologist with a background in community organizing, open source software, and writing. Before joining the Beeck Center, they worked in a variety of roles at the intersection of society and technology, from volunteering with Code for America brigades and running open source conferences and hackathons, working in civic tech and social justice based startups, to most recently serving the public as a federal employee with the US Digital Service (USDS). At USDS, they built API products and data infrastructure at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), launched open public health infrastructure projects with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and led the open source community and USDS engineering team supporting Justice40, a whole-of-government environmental justice initiative.

When away from the keyboard, Shelby can be found reading a good book or hiking with their rambunctious pitbull, Osceola.
